ST. THOMAS — Shaquan Brodie, 21, formerly of St. John, pleaded guilty today in District Court before Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller, to making fraudulent insurance claims against the United States Postal Service, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.
According to court documents, Brodie filed 201 fraudulent claims for insurance against the United States Postal Service totaling in excess of $47,000, for items Brodie represented were lost or stolen, knowing that his claims were false. The United States Postal Service paid out $14,221 in claims to Brodie.
Brodie faces a maximum sentence of one-year incarceration and a $100,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for August 1, 2018.
This case was investigated by the USPS-Office of Inspector General. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Everard E. Potter.
