ST. THOMAS — A suspect involved in a February 12 shooting incident at the Government Employees’ Retirement System’s (G E.R.S.) parking lot here, was captured in Florida and expedited back to the territory to face charges, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Sunday.
According to the February 13 V.I.P.D. release, the victim told police that he was in the G.E.R.S. parking lot when a male suspect walked up to him and demanded that he turnover all of his belongings. The said victim did as the suspect demanded and took off running out of fear. As he tried to escape the situation, however, the suspect fired shots at the victim, striking him in the leg, according to Mr. Dratte. The report came in to the 911 emergency call center at 5:26 p.m., according to the February 13 release.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Victor Jesus Gonzalez, seen above, was arrested in Florida based on an arrest warrant. On June 9, he was extradited back to the U.S.V.I. and was charged with a first-degree robbery, among other charges. (The other charges were not included in the release.)
Mr. Gonzalez was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing after failing to make bail of $100,000, according to Mr. Dratte.
