Division Of Personnel Announces Open Enrollment Period For Health Insurance

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / August 1, 2018

Division of Personnel Director Milton Potter along with the GESC/Health Insurance Board of Trustees on Tuesday advised all participants in the Government Group Insurance Program of the open enrollment period which begins on Monday August 20, and concludes on Friday September 21.

According to the release, open enrollment is an opportunity for covered employees and retirees to make benefit changes, add or remove dependents, and/or increase their supplemental life insurance coverage. Participants will only be able to make changes after open enrollment if said participant has a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, or change in employment status — and these changes must take place within thirty days of the event.

Active employees who would like to make changes can do so by accessing the new online enrollment system Bentek, at www.mybentek.com/gvi. According to the release, Bentek is 100 percent mobile-ready and can be accessed by using any device, such as a smartphone, tablet and a computer. For active employees, it is key that beneficiaries be identified through the Bentek system.

Note: It is important to be aware that the Government Health Insurance office is no longer accepting paper enrollment forms for active employees who wish to make any change to their Health Insurance Benefits.

Retirees who want to make changes to their health insurance benefits are asked to visit the Division of Personnel location in their respective district or contact the office by phone at (340) 714-5000.

According to the release, Mr. Potter recognizes that a number of active employees have not utilized the system since it was first introduced, and thus is offering an open enrollment online benefits training to all active government employees who wish to make changes during the open enrollment period. Contact your agency’s human resources officer for scheduling.

The training dates are Thursday, August 16 and Friday, August 17 in both districts. Interested persons may contact Nakisha Young in St. Croix at (340) 718-8588, and Sparkle Estrill in St. Thomas at (340) 714-5000, to schedule the training session.
