ST. CROIX — A man wanted on St. Croix since 2004 on rape and incest charges was nabbed by police in Maryland on Friday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
The suspect, 60-year-old Joseph Hanley, was captured through the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.), an electronic clearinghouse of crime data that can be tapped into by every criminal justice agency — including the V.I.P.D.
Mr. Hanley was held in the Montgomery County Detention Center in Maryland and extradited to the territory by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, according to Mr. Dratte.
The suspect was charged with incest, first-degree rape, and aggravated first-degree rape.
The incident occurred in 1999 in Christiansted, according to police.
Unable to make bail $250,000, Mr. Hanley was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility pending his advisement hearing.
