Governor Mapp Authorizes Administrative Leave For Government Employees For The Holidays

News / Virgin Islands / December 21, 2018

Governor Kenneth E. Mapp has granted administrative leave to nonessential government employees for the holidays, Government House announced late Thursday.

On St. Croix, employees have been granted leave on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 to celebrate the traditional Crucian Christmas Festival J’ouvert followed by the Crucian Christmas Festival Food, Arts & Crafts Fair.

Leave has been authorized for employees territory-wide on Friday, January 4, 2019, for the Crucian Christmas Festival Children’s Parade, and Monday, January 7, 2019, in observance of Three Kings’ Day (the legal holiday falls on Sunday, January 6, 2019).

“After a long year of hard work and recovery, we look forward to ringing in the holidays with rest and renewal,” said Governor Mapp, who encouraged Virgin Islanders to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season, including St. Croix’s Crucian Christmas Festival “where we will have another wonderful opportunity to showcase and celebrate our culture”.

Leave has been granted on Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All government offices will be closed on Christmas Day (December 25), Christmas Second Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day (January 1), which are legal holidays in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
