ST. CROIX — The Juan F. Luis Hospital (JFL) delivered St. Croix’s first baby of the year on Wednesday, the hospital announced via release today. Mathias Hector Wheelock arrived at approximately 7:55 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 3.2 ounces and measuring 52 centimeters in length (20.5 inches), JFL said.
Mother Aida Marrero and baby are said to be doing well. “We thank Postpartum, Labor & Delivery, Mother Baby Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a successful delivery and care of mother and baby,” the hospital said in the release.
JFL’s Acting CEO Dyma Williams presented the mother and baby with gifts today, including a travel system (car seat and stroller), and a gift bag with assorted baby items on behalf of the hospital’s administration and staff. The mother was also presented with a diaper cake from the JFL Women and Children’s Unit, a gift bag from Chey’s Baby Store and a gold hook bracelet from Luv Kids/Perfection Jewelry Store, according to the release.
It has been JFL’s annual tradition to announce the firstborn of the year through a press release, and to also present the baby’s parents with gifts.
