ST. CROIX — An infant child was discovered dead at the John F. Kennedy Housing Community in Christiansted on Saturday morning, VIPD Public Information Office Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon.
According to Jackson, at about 6:34 a.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of a child being listed as “dead on arrival” (DOA) at the aforementioned housing community.
Officers and detectives responded to the scene and discovered an infant who appeared to be lifeless. Emergency medical technicians were summoned to examine the infant, and found no signs of life.
The preliminary report indicates that the child’s mother realized that her daughter was no longer breathing, prompting her to call 911 for assistance.
Police say no evidence of foul play had been discovered, however further information regarding the incident was not divulged due to the distraught condition of family members.
The situation has been classified as a DOA pending an autopsy, as detectives continue their investigation into the matter.
