Man Escapes Gunfire In Frederiksted; Two Vehicles Damaged

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / December 16, 2015

ST. CROIX — A man escaped gunfire intended to take his life this afternoon in Frederiksted, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this evening.

According to Mr. Jackson, citing a preliminary report, at about 1:10 p.m. today the 911 emergency call center received a report of gunfire having been discharged at Hospital Street, in the vicinity of the Danish Garden in Frederiksted.

Responding officers arrived at the location and met with the intended victim of the shooting, a 19-year-old man, who stated that he’d been repairing his vehicle when he heard two gunshots.

The intended victim told officers that he then saw an unknown black male, wearing a black t-shirt and grey pants with a shirt covering his face shooting at him. The intended victim ran away from the scene and was unharmed in the incident.

Two parked vehicles were damaged from the discharge of gunfire and forensic officers found casings at the scene. A person of interest was detained by officers, but was released due to lack of evidence, according to the release.

This latest incident is the third shooting here for today, and the fifth in two days.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to phone 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477 or go to www.crimestoppersusvi.org
