ST. JOHN — Police arrested Rupert “Youth” Walters last Friday and charged him with first degree murder in connection with the homicide of Kenson Jolly, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon.
On May 29, 2015, a man was found slumped over a patio chair with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, Mr. Jackson reported last year.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Kongens Gade in downtown Cruz Bay to followup on a disturbance report, and upon arrival, police saw the man’s body slumped over, unresponsive to their verbal inquiries.
The victim, a black male, was identified by next of kin as Kenson Jolly, 25, of Pastory. He was also called ‘Jolly’.
In today’s release, Mr. Jackson says Mr. Jolly had been arrested on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 on the charges of first degree assault, third degree assault, mayhem, and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred that evening.
The victim of the stabbing was found bleeding from multiple wounds and minutes after searching the surrounding area, officers encountered Mr. Jolly, who matched the description of the suspect who was covered in blood.
Mr. Jolly had been detained and placed under arrest after being positively identified by a witness as the individual that assaulted Rupert Walters.
Police did not say why or when Mr. Jolly was released before he was allegedly killed my Mr. Walters.
As for Mr. Walters, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing, after failing to make bail of $750,000.
