Update: 3:33 p.m. The Consortium has taken down the images of two brothers who fell victim to gunfire while playing dominoes yesterday. The decision was made after speaking to the mother of the victims, who respectfully requested that they be removed. Here’s our response on why we chose to publish the images.

ST. CROIX — Multiple gunshots rang out this afternoon at the Watergut Shanty in Christiansted near the David Hamilton Jackson Housing Community, also known as Red Brick, leaving two men dead and one hospitalized, The Consortium can confirm. Police Commissioner Delroy Richards later corroborated the information.

The incident occurred at about 5:20 p.m., and officers immediately descended on the area, which was swarmed with residents of the neighboring housing communities. Mr. Richards said preliminary information received revealed that the suspect was sitting in his vehicle, and suddenly got out and opened fired on the victims, who were playing dominoes. The assailant, according to an eyewitness, fled the area through Red Brick.

Mr. Richards said police have a lead on the suspect, and an active search is underway.

A Consortium reporter witnessed emergency medical technicians examining the two victims for signs of life, however none was found. Multiple officers were also in the area investigating the crime scene, while others hustled westward in search of the assailant.

The deceased victims have not yet been identified, and it’s not clear the current status of the hospitalized victim.
