Two Shooting Incidents Reported In St. Thomas; One Injured

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / May 22, 2016

ST. THOMAS — Shooting incidents here on Thursday and Saturday left a housing community damaged and one victim injured, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman has announced.

According to Ms. Freeman, who cited a police report, on Thursday at approximately 11:27 p.m., officers were dispatched by the 911 emergency call center in regards to shots fired in the area of the Oswald Harris Court Housing Community.

Upon arrival to the scene, contact was made with witnesses who stated that three black males were sitting in the western archway of building 20, when roughly three to four unknown males exited an approaching dark-colored SUV and began firing shots at the building.

At least two of the units in building 20 sustained damages from the discharging of gunfire, according to Ms. Freeman. In addition, items within at least two units were also damaged. Multiple shell casings were recovered in the roadway and outside the building.

A preliminary investigation revealed that none of the residents were injured as a result of the shots fired, and there were no reports of gunshot victims at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.

Elsewhere here, on Saturday at approximately 5:40 a.m., officers made contact with 21-year-old Shaki Alexander of Estate Tutu, at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.

According to Ms. Freeman, Mr. Alexander stated that at approximately 4:30 a.m., he left Krush Night Club and traveled eastward in the area of Raphune Hill, when he heard several shots fired. He said after arriving to his home, he discovered that he was shot in his right shoulder and immediately called a taxi to transport him to the hospital. Mr. Alexander said he did not know the individuals that fired the shots towards him.

The victim sustained a single gunshot graze to his right shoulder and was treated for his injury, according to Ms. Freeman. Forensic Investigators traveled to the hospital, took photographs, and collected evidence regarding this matter.

Both incidents are under investigation.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of these crimes to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340)774-2211 at extensions 5579 and 5557. They can also call 911, Crime Stoppers VI, the Commissioner’s Office at (340)715-5506 and the Chief’s Office at (340)715-5548.
