JFL Dietary Services And Cafeteria Temporarily Closed

Health / News / Top Stories / Virgin Islands / August 4, 2016

ST. CROIX — The Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center’s (JFL) Nutrition Services department, which includes the hospital’s popular cafeteria, will be temporarily providing services offsite, the hospital announced late Wednesday via press release. This week, the drainage pipes in the kitchen collapsed, and JFL’s management and maintenance departments have been working expeditiously to address the problem, according to the release.

The release adds that in the best interest of JFL’s patients and their safety, the hospital’s executive team has determined that the food preparation services should be moved off-site. JFL’s leadership is close to entering into an memorandum of understanding with another government agency not mentioned in the press release, in order to safely prepare patient meals.

The hospital says it’s presently working with a licensed contractor who will perform a video pipe inspection to determine whether the existing system can be repaired, or if it needs to be replaced. Once those assessments are completed, JFL’s management will be able to provide a definitive timeline on when on-site dietary services will resume.

According to the release, the Tropical Treats Cafeteria provides food for JFL’s employees as well as the public, and it will be closed during this time. JFL’s management is in the process of identifying food vendors who can provide catering or on-site meals for the convenience of our employees.

The release noted that JFL’s dietary department has continued to prepare meals for its patients, and the quality of the food was never compromised.
