ST. CROIX — Virgin Islands Police Department officers are currently processing a crime scene on Hill Street in Christiansted, after a man was shot to death there, upping the territory’s homicide death toll this year to 44, the 43rd being a shooting death of a firefighter in St. Thomas.
The incident occurred around 8:24 p.m. on Friday, according to the 911 emergency call center. A Consortium reporter arrived on the scene at about 10:55 p.m., where multiple detectives were still investigating the matter. A coroner’s van was also seen, likely to transport the body of the deceased.
Identification of the victim, a black male, was still pending next of kin notification at time of writing.
V.I.P.D. Public Information Glen Dratte said he was waiting on information from detectives on the scene before he could share any information with media.
