ST. THOMAS — The surge of gun violence that has affected St. Thomas in recent days continued on Thursday with a shooting incident that occurred near the Nisky Center, leaving at least one man injured.
Today’s incident comes one day following two separate gun-related incidents here, where one man died and another, who survived, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Just days before, a man was shot dead in Contant.
It is not clear whether the recent shootings were connected in any form, but the surge of violence has jolted St. Thomas, leaving some in the community terrified.
According to V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman, today at 10:00 a.m., residents called the 911 emergency call center reporting that a vehicle fired several shots in the area of Nisky Center. Several other residents called immediately after and reported that there was a gunshot victim, who was shot while in his vehicle, a blue Toyota Yaris, seen atop.
Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, they observed a black male who appeared to have sustained injuries due to the incident, and was transported via ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center’s emergency room for medical attention. Police later traveled to the hospital and made contact with the male victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his left side of his body. The victim was treated and later released, according to Ms. Freeman.
Police say the incident is under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, and all possible leads are being followed.
The force is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators, to call 340-774-2211 or Criminal Investigation Bureau (340) 714-9801.
