ST. THOMAS — Police on Tuesday arrested Amijah Charles, above, in the Mariendahl area and charged him with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a firearm, aiding and abetting, and accessory after the fact, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced Wednesday.
The arrest, based on a warrant issued by Magistrate Henry V. Carr III, was executed by the force’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Special Operation Bureau arms, according to Ms. Freeman.
The arrest was in connect with the July 27 Contant shooting that left two men wounded, and children who were playing steel pan in a nearby Wesleyan church shaken.
The incident, which occurred at about 6:45 p.m. according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, left two male victims with multiple gunshot wounds, with one being kept for medical treatment at the time, while the other was treated and released.
The V.I.P.D. gave little information as to how the incident occurred, but the force said it was investigating the matter.
Unable to make bail of $100,000, Mr. Charles was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
