22-Year-Old Man Is Shot Dead In St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — A 22-year-old man was declared dead on arrival after being examined by emergency medical technicians following a shooting in the Oswald Harris Court housing community in St. Thomas on Wednesday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

According to Mr. Dratte, at about 3:15 p.m., V.I.P.D. units from the Richard N. Callwood Command and from the Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to the housing community in regards to reports of shots being fired.

Upon arrival, the officers observed an unresponsive black male lying on the ground with what appeared to be blood on his clothing, Mr. Dratte said. The victim was examined by EMTs who discovered he had no vital signs.

Officers were able to hold two persons of interest; they also recovered a firearm, Mr. Dratte said.

The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Jahbari Joseph.

The case is under investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Major Crime Unit, Mr. Dratte said. The force is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator (s) to contact the Investigation Bureau at 340- 774-2211, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with your anonymous tip here.
