Viya has announced its 2018 scholarships for first-year University of the Virgin Islands students, a program that has been active for many years as the firm continues to support education.
“Viya is, once again, committed to investing in the community’s future by supporting Virgin Islands high school graduates who plan to study science, technology, telecommunications, engineering and other disciplines that will bolster technological advancements in the Virgin Islands and the region,” said Viya CEO Alvaro Pilar.
The Viya scholarships will be awarded to two Virgin Islands high school
seniors — one in each district — who have already been accepted to a college or a university to pursue a degree in one of the following areas: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business administration, accounting or related fields, according to Viya. The winning student in each district is awarded a one-time $10,000 scholarship to be used for tuition only, Viya said.
Applications are available at the security desks at the Viya Customer
Experience Centers in Estate Diamond on St. Croix, Tutu Park on St.
Thomas and The Marketplace on St. John. Applications are also available
from guidance counselors at all Virgin Islands highs schools. Further,
students can obtain applications by downloading the requisite forms from
Viya’s website here.
All completed applications must be submitted to one of Viya’s offices or postmarked by Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Full instructions on the submittal process are included in the application packets provided at the aforementioned locations and Viya’s website.
“I am encouraging talented students with an interest in STEM programs and
related fields to apply for the Viya Scholarship. We are very excited about
the opportunity to provide financial assistance to worthy, young scholars as
they continue their educational endeavors,” Mr. Pilar concluded.
