Man Shot In G.E.R.S. Parking Lot In St. Thomas

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / February 14, 2018

ST. THOMAS — A man was shot in the parking lot of the Government Employees’ Retirement System building on Monday after the 5:00 p.m. hour, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte told The Consortium late Tuesday. The victim was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where police dispatched to investigate the matter met up with him.

The victim told police that he was in the G.E.R.S. parking lot when a male suspect walked up to him and demanded that he turnover all of his belongings. The victim did as the suspect demanded and took off running out of fear. As he tried to escape the situation, however, the suspect fired shots after the victim, striking him in the leg, according to Mr. Dratte.

The victim was taken into surgery, Mr. Dratte said. Police are asking residents with information about this crime to call 340-774-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI here.
