ST. CROIX — The VI Carnival Queen Show was not the only royal competition that took place last night. The University of the Virgin Islands also held is annual pageantry event, which saw Kendra Kent, above, a 21-year-old criminal justice student on the St. Thomas campus, besting her two competitors to be crowned Miss UVI 2018.
Her prize: A one-year tuition, room and board scholarship equivalent to $13,000, among other gifts.
The event took place at the St. Croix Educational Complex and saw a respectable turnout. The contestants vied in mainstay pageantry categories, including talent, evening wear, and question and answer.
The first runner-up was Ki-Ana Tonge, a 21-year-old sophomore early childhood education student on the St. Croix campus. Coming in third place was Ashley Simpson, a 24-year-old sophomore nursing student, also studying on the St. Croix campus.
