ST. THOMAS — Carnival Sunshine will call on St. Thomas on Tuesday, October 6th, the West Indian Company, Ltd. announced today.
“Carnival Sunshine was diverted to St. Thomas due to the forecast track of Hurricane Joaquin,” Joseph B. Boschulte, President and CEO of the West Indian Company, Ltd. said. “The ship was originally scheduled to call on Bermuda; however, Carnival Cruise Lines decided to redirect the ship to the U.S. Virgin Islands. We are pleased to welcome the passengers and crew.”
The 3,400-passenger cruise ship will berth at the WICO dock at 8:00 a.m. and depart at 6:00 p.m. for Grand Turk.
Conservatively, the call is expected to contribute $758,600 in passenger and crew spending to the economy. The most popular spending categories are retail; taxi, car rental and tours; entertainment and recreation; and food and beverage – in that order.
Previously known as Carnival Destiny, the 842-foot Carnival Sunshine underwent a $155 million renovation and was rechristened in 2013. It was the first passenger ship ever built over 100,000 gross tons.
The Carnival Glory and Norwegian Getaway also will be in port at the WICO dock on October 6th.
