ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. Officers with the Major Crimes Unit executed an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Menalik Petersen, above, also known as “Meno”, at approximately 8:42 this morning, charging Mr. Petersen with the 2015 homicide death of then-55-year-old Terrance Morehead, who was gunned down at the Super Tanker Service Station located in Sunny Isles on April 11, 2015, Police Commissioner Delroy Richards told The Consortium this afternoon.
Mr. Petersen was charged with murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, reckless endangerment in the first degree and failure to report a firearm obtained or brought into the Virgin Islands, according to Mr. Richards. The police commissioner said today’s arrest is proof that the V.I.P.D. has been working tirelessly to bring criminals to justice.
Mr. Richards said an investigation into the matter revealed that Mr. Petersen had attempted to rob Mr. Moorehead after Mr. Moorehead left the gas station’s convenience store. A struggle then ensued and the victim was shot to death by Mr. Petersen.
Bail for Mr. Petersen was set at $1 million, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing set for April 18.
