Man Drowns At St. Thomas Marina

ST.  THOMAS — A man was found dead on Thursday afternoon at the Independence Boat Yard, a marina in St. Thomas, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced via press release this afternoon.

According to Ms. Freeman, on Thursday at about 5:44 p.m., the 911 emergency call center reported to a possible drowning at the marina, located in Frydenhoj.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers made contact with an unresponsive Caucasian male, who was lying face up on an orange, flat board, and being attended to by responding emergency medical technicians, Ms. Freeman said.

According to the release, the male victim was pronounced dead on the scene and was transported to the morgue at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center. No information was divulged relative to how the drowning might have occurred.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld, police say, pending notification of his next of kin.
