ST. THOMAS — A former Guardian Insurance employee admitted to police on Thursday that he stole almost $14,000 belonging to the insurance company, and was arrested on embezzlement, forgery and other charges, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman made known via press release on Friday.
According to Ms. Freeman, Ashio Rojas, above, of Anna’s Retreat was charged with embezzlement, forgery, grand larceny, and obtaining money by false pretense, after admitting to stealing $13,979 that was entrusted to him while he was an underwriter at the insurance company’s Tutu Park Mall location. He also admitted to using the money for personal use.
Mr. Rojas, 44, admitted to forging the signature on a Ranger American deposit log in an attempt to cover his crime, according to Ms. Freeman.
Mr. Rojas was unable to make bail of $35,000, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
