Police on St. Thomas have arrested the woman who allegedly attacked her ex-boyfriend with a machete last Friday and the man that aided her, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.
Anika Daniel, 28, of Temple Street along with Jules Illingsworth, 46, of Estate Thomas, who aided Daniel in her attack, were arrested and charged with assault after being positively identified as the perpetrators by the victim and witnesses.
According to Keithroy Chittick, during the early hours of Feb. 6, while on his way to work in the vicinity of the Waterfront area of Banco Popular, Daniel attacked him with a machete. He said Daniel was accompanied by an unknown man, now identified as Illingsworth, who punched him in the face, and as he fell to the ground, Daniel began attacking him with the machete.
Chittick fled his attackers, running from Raadet’s Gade to Riise Alley; however, he told police that Daniel and Illingsworth pursued him in a white jeep. Daniel jumped out of the jeep to continue her assault on Chittick, but two bystanders intervened and phoned ambulance for the injured victim.
According to the attending physician, Chittick sustained a deep laceration to his left forearm and left hand.
Daniel was charged with first degree assault without bail and was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections. Illingsworth was charged with third degree assault and his bail set at $80,000.
