Gun violence continues to escalate in the territory as another young St. Thomas man was found dead inside a vehicle at about 6:42 a.m. on Wednesday in the area of Building 10 of Tutu High Rise, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced.
According to Jackson, upon arriving on the scene, police discovered the body of an unresponsive black male, later identified as 20-year-old Leroy Rawlins, with a gunshot wound to the body. He was a resident of the housing community.
This latest incident follows the shooting death of a St. Croix man who was gunned down on Monday morning near the Eulalie Rivera Elementary School in Estate Grove Place. The man was later identified as 37-year-old Mustafa Williams.
According to Jackson, 911 dispatchers received a call of shots being fired near the elementary school and proceeded to dispatch police officers to the scene.
When the officers arrived, however, they found Williams unresponsive in the vicinity of #15C Grove Place. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, but found no vital signs in the victim.
The VIPD is asking anyone with information concerning this homicide to call the Major Crimes Unit at (340) 714-9833 ext. 5618, 911 or the anonymous tips service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
